Janelle Monae COVERS "BILLBOARD", Adds Prince & Miguel To "Electric Lady" DISC
In the latest issue of BILLBOARD Magazine, the gorge Janelle Monae reveals that she's ready take her music mainstream with her upcoming disc, Electric Lady. The disc (no release date yet) will feature star turns from Prince and Miguel and is ready to set radio on fire. In the cover story, Atlantic Records Group chairman/COO Julie Greenwald tells BILLBOARD,
"This album has a lot of songs that can get played on mainstream radio. Before, we got a lot of attention in the press, on the blogs, on the video networks. But we didn't crack the code at radio. So if you connect that last dot, it's going to be a significant improvement from the last album cycle. Which is really going to put her music in so many people's homes."

"I never liked people telling me what to do," she says. "I also wanted to own something: I've always had this thought of owning my own label, of being in charge of my words, my art, everything you hear. My goal wasn't to be the most famous person overnight -- it was to make music on my own terms, develop myself and understand if my words were necessary to young people like myself and to make my family proud."
On the meaning of the song "Q.U.E.E.N.":
"I feel like there are constant parallels with me as a woman, being an African-American woman, to what it means for the community that people consider to be queer, the community of immigrants and the Negroid-the combination between the 'N' and the android. All of us have very similar fights with society and oppressors, with those who are not about love, who are more about judging. There are two different types of people: Some people come into this world to judge, some people come into this world to jam. Which one are you? It's a question we should all ask ourselves. My job is to create art that starts a dialogue, to create songs and lyrics that ask society these questions, by using myself as a sacrificial lamb."

YouTube’s biggest partners are now publicly questioning whether they will ever make enough money from the online video giant to sustain their businesses.
Tuesday at the Stream conference, executives from multi-channel networks echoed a controversial blog post by entrepreneur Jason Calacanis over the weekend in which he chided YouTube for taking too large a cut of his channel’s revenue. The post has been the talk of the online video community since it surfaced — so much so that Electus COO Drew Buckley kicked off his panel by asking those executives for their take.

His generosity didn’t stop there, leaving a waitress a $5,000 tip, says the source. Later, Brown took his tour bus to EVR, where he met up with Sean Kingston.

'"That's When I Knew" is definitely an ode to my husband... Honestly I didn't really like him that much. I thought he was too ostentatious.'
On becoming vocal about her feelings...
'You have to speak up. To say, 'I don't like that, it's not cool, don't do that to me', but it's not easy, especially with people you love. I think getting older has made me evolve in a lot of ways and made me more relaxed about saying how I feel, no matter what.'
On maintaining balance...
'I realise you have to have a balance - you can live life and have more experiences as well as working.'
On becoming a director...
'I fell in love with directing. Because first of all I didn't have to get up early for make-up and, second, I'm a very diplomatic individual.'

Chaka Khan Ordered By Doctor To Cancel Upcoming Concerts
Chaka Khan’s PR team released a statement announcing that Chaka Khan has had to cancel four concert dates in June due to extended vocal rest ordered by her doctor. Including, The Capital Jazz Festival at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD; the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, held outdoors in the downtown Cultural District in Pittsburgh, PA (June 9); an appearance with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra at Columbus Commons in Columbus, OH (June 14) and Joni: A Portrait in Song at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada (June 18 and 19).
However, Khan will attend the Apollo Spring Gala in her honor on Monday, June 10, at the Apollo Theater in Harlem , New York
