Weekend Box Office: 'Man Of Steel' Soars To $125 Million Debut

Since Man of Steel was actually a little front-loaded this weekend, it’s unfortunately going to matter whether or not you count that extra $12 million from the Thursday Wal-Mart screenings as part of the opening weekend or merely basically ‘bonus grosses’ to be counted exclusively as Thursday figures.   So bear with me, as this might get a little complicated.

Man Of Steel debuted this weekend for a 3.25 day total of $125 million.  If you count that whole figure as its opening weekend, then it bests the $116 million debut of Alice In Wonderland for the second-best opening weekend for a non-sequel behind The Hunger Games‘s $152 million.  It’s also, inflation and 3D bumps aside, that much closer to the $128 million debut of Iron Man 2 and becomes the 13th biggest debut ahead of the $125.1 million debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part I.  But if you count just the $113.1 million Fri-Sun total as its opening weekend, which I generally do not, that puts Man Of Steel just barely above the $110 million debut of Toy Story 3 for the June weekend record.

Obviously credit goes to Warner Bros’ marketing department, which cut a series of emotionally potent trailers that actually hid most of the big action beats, even if they (grumble grumble) spoiled nearly every major emotional beat found in the film. Even the last minute action-filled teaser (titled ‘You are not alone’) and the Nokia trailer were cut so quickly as to merely suggest action rather than give away specific scenes (although I’m glad I waited until after I saw the film to watch that Nokia trailer).  Warner Bros. also successfully kept expectations low, offering official predictions of a $75 million debut weekend while even rival studios dared only speculate as high as $100 million.  As such, the $125 million figure is now seen as ‘over performing’ and will be reporting as opening well above expectations. So for the moment, Man Of Steel has reaffirmed DC Comics as a viable brand for big-scale tent poles just as Marvel did with Iron Man five years ago.  So far, so good…

Hip Hop Sisters’ Among Four New Reality Shows at BET

BET is building up its unscripted pilots into development this year – including a reality show featuring MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama attempting to relauch their careers.

HIP HOP SISTERS is a docudrama following the relaunch of six female rappers’ careers. MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama join forces and declare themselves the Hip Hop Sisters. Their goal is to reclaim their titles as the Queens of Hip Hop — as they manage their drama-filled personal careers and lives and search for the next great female MC. MC Lyte joins Lemuel Plummer (Vindicated, The Sheards) as executive producer.

Baltimore Raven Torrey Smith & Fiancée Chanel Williams Reveal Their Engagement Pics

NFL superstar wide receiver Torrey Smith, who helped lead the Baltimore Ravens to victory at Superbowl 2013, is engaged to Chanel Williams.  And earlier today, the happy couple released their engagement pics to The Baltimore Sun.

They posed for pics at the famed M&T Bank Stadium where Torrey's road to victory began.

On her Instagram page, Chanel and Torrey paid homage to one of his famous teammates in the above pic.  She said, "Ray Lewis tribute! Lol"  Loves it!

Chanel also revealed that she'll officially become "Mrs. Smith" in exactly 30 days.

And in case you were wondering.....

Torrey did a great job at picking out a ring.  But, it's not the only big ass diamond in the family.

The Baltimore Ravens just received their Superbowl rings a few days ago.  He tweeted, "Thought I gave @libraladii a nice ring until I saw this...."

Congrats to the couple on their upcoming July wedding.

The ladies are looking beautiful on the cover of Upscale Magazine where they discuss doing better as a brand and cast mates that are no longer with the show.

I started eating everything under the sun. I blew up to about 190-ish pounds. I’m a tall girl, so I wear it well, but I was bordering between [size] 14 and 16 in my clothes. – Tami

“By the time we did the [season four] reunion we all agreed enough is enough. We had a group talk and were all definitely on the same page. We heard the messages loud and clear. We knew we had to do better. It was an eye opener.” – Shaunie

Jennifer Williams and Royce Reed getting fired: “It was a chemistry thing. It just became awkward to film or even come up with a conversation. It just wasn’t working for TV.” – Shaunie

“Royce has been a non-motherf—ing factor for the last two seasons, so it just didn’t make sense anymore. And as for Jennifer—Shaunie is [being] nice but I’m going to tell you this—we don’t condone the incident with Jennifer, but we do reality TV. You know something’s bound to happen when you put a bunch of women together and there’s a lot of behind the scenes conversation and gossip going on. So when Jennifer went on this whole anti-show campaign, it was a little tough for us as cast members.” – Evelyn Basketball Wives season 4 premieres in August 2013.

Royce Reed Claps Back At Evelyn Lozada For Calling Her A Non Mother F****n Factor

Recently Shaunie O'neal, Evelyn Lozada and Tami Roman  was talking about why Jennifer Williams and Royce Reed won't be returning to the newest season of Vh1's "Basketball Wives Miami".

In the "Upscale" magazine interview, Evelyn Lozada says that Royce is a non muthafuckin factor and stated that having Royce on the show no longer made sense. Well, Royce Reed must've heard about that interview because she has clapped back at Evelyn via her Twitter page.

Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan hires his old friend Patrick Ewing as assistant coach. Sacramento’s new head coach Mike Malone was reportedly also wooing Ewing. Back in their playing days, Jordan got the best of Ewing in the biggest moments, from the tongue-wagging North Carolina freshman guard sinking the go-ahead shot against Ewing’s Hoyas in the 1982 NCAA Championship game to his Bulls consistently fending over the big man’s Knicks. The pair did hook up to bring up gold for the 1984 and 1992 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team – and as Wojnarowski notes, in the 1996 animated movie Space Jam.

Considering the Bobcats suspect roster, It could be awhile before the pair bring that kind of success – the gold medal equivalent that is – to Charlotte.

Millionaire Producer Ralo Wonder The Reason Porsha Stewart Is Getting A Divorce

The divorce drama between Kordell Stewart and Porsha Williams-Stewart has intensified. Now there’s a new player added to the mix.

Media mogul and NASCAR team owner Ralo Wonder is said to have played a major part in the demise of Porsha and Kordell’s self-proclaimed picture perfect marriage. Mr. Wonder (no relation to Stevie) is also best friends with Mimi Faust’s  from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta new flame Nikko.

Word is Ralo and Porsha had a real steamy side relationship that Kordell got wind of but couldn’t prove it. It all may be coming to light since one of Ralo’s disgruntled business associates got a hold of Ralo’s cell phone with tons of evidence in it.

The associate is threatening to go to the media if he’s not paid money that he claims is owed to him.

Imagine if this person actually got his story sold somwhere. The skeletons would plummet out of the closet if this turns out to be true. We can guarantee Ralo and Porsha definitely do not want that to happen.

But wait, there’s more. Ralo is engaged to Crystal Mocahantas, who is rumored to be replacing one of the Atlanta housewives. Porsha and her divorce battle will only get worse if this information is released, especially after she claimed that Kordell changed the locks on her. If these two ladies ended up on RHOA together the ratings would be through the roof.

FIRST LOOK: Mariah Carey As "Hattie Pearl" In "The Butler"

Mariah Carey is among the A-listers who will be starring in Lee Daniels' upcoming film The Butler (August 16th).  And now, we've got a sneak peek at her character.  Mariah will be playing Hattie Pearl, and apparently, Hattie Pearl was a slave.  AND she worked in the cotton fields.

We're sure many folks are going to having comments about Mariah and someone of her....aesthetic....playing a "field" slave....but this IS a Lee Daniels' film.  It's supposed to make you question, wonder and debate.  Not just say "Bish please."

In the film, Mariah will star alongside Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr, Lenny Kravitz, Robin Williams and Jane Fonda.

Meanwhile, Mariah, whose song "#Beautiful" featuring Miguel has put her back atop the music charts around the world, will release her 13th studio album on July 23.

Karrueche's Phone Gets Stolen!!!

According to Karrueche Tran's Twitter page, her phone was recently stolen. Not that phones being stolen aren't a big deal, but it's the fact that she didn't have a lock on her phone that's got her in an uproar! Want to know why? Because according to the word on the internet curb, Karrueche was busy twerking when her phone fell off her person. She didn't realize the phone was gone until she noticed the phone was no longer in her possession.

However, instead of thinking she lost the phone, Karrueche is adamant that a bitch stole her phone! Peep her tweet below:

No More ‘Basketball Wives LA’ As Season 3 Is Canceled

Looks like somebody is gonna be out of a job… VH1 reportedly canceled Basketball Wives LA Seasons 3 after two seasons because of an alleged decline in ratings. BBWLA, debuted on August 29, 2011, and suffered a drastic decline in viewership by its fifth episode during season two. The show reportedly drew just 1.8 million viewers during its premiere the figures continued to decrease to just 1.2 million by episode five. These figures pales in comparison to Basketball Wives Miami, which previously attracted close to four million viewers during its peak.

Wu-Tang Clan REUNITES For New 20th Anniversary Album & Euro Concerts

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, legendary hip hop group, Wu-Tang Clan, are reuniting for a series of one-off dates to mark the 20th anniversary of their classic debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

Also, RZA, GZA, Raekwon, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Method Man and Masta Killah have announced a new album A Better Tomorrow, set for release in July.

During a piece with the NY Times, RZA spoke about the reunion saying,

We need to, one time, completely, efficiently, properly, professionally represent our brand. One more time. But this time, showing up on time for press and for concerts and studio. Do it one time, perfect.'  There's enough of us still alive, and I think there's still enough fans out there. Hip-hop is stronger than ever, as far as worldwide recognition, and our name is synonymous with it.'

On July 25th, The Wu-Tang clan will play at O2 Apollo in Manchester and On July 26th, they'll hit London at the O2 Academy.

Tickets go on sale today. I'll keep you posted about any US dates.

Kobe Bryant Officially Out, Snaps Photos Before Surgery + Vanessa Updates Instagram Fans

It’s a wrap….or at least for now. Over the weekend, NBA baller Kobe Bryant had surgery to repair the torn Achilles tendon in his left leg. According to ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers player is supposed to sit out between six to nine months to recover.

Trainer, Gary Vitti, confirmed the news Saturday afternoon:

“When something like this happens, everybody wants to know why and there’s not always a reason why. If you look at our season, it’s been a nightmare. We had a player come in with a surgery, which was Dwight Howard. Then we had Steve Nash break his leg. Then we had Steve Blake have an abdominal surgery. Then we hadJordan Hill with a hip surgery. Then we had Metta (World Peace) with a knee surgery. We also had Dwight with a (torn) labrum in his shoulder.Antawn Jamison will have surgery after the season is over on his wrist. So, when you try to look at the whys, it’s bad luck.”

Kobe seemed to be in good spirits, as he shared photos of himself prepping for surgery. On twitter, he wrote:

After his surgery, Kobe’s wife, Vanessa sent an update on Instagram, writing:

Kobe’s surgery is complete. Thanks for your prayers. He went into the O.R. listening to Moonlight Sonata.

Was Freeband Double D’s Death A Message To Rick Ross?

A few days ago in Atlanta Miami rapper and record executive named “Freeband Double D” aka OG Double D was shot and killed.

Double D was associated with rappers Future, Young Scooter and surprisingly Rick Ross!!

This is tragic and very sad news to those who knew and loved him.  Details surrounding his death are still sketchy and the police are looking into who, what and why this killing occurred. The Atlanta Journal Constitution, reported that a white SUV pulled alongside Double D’s Maybach on I-20 and opened fire during rush hour on Thursday, he was transported to the hospital and later died, according to Mekka Parish of the DeKalb County Police Department.

Was this a serious case of road rage, a random shooting or a professional hit? I can not help but wonder if this was message for Rick Ross, who was recently shot at in Miami.

Lindsay Lohan NOT Staying In Rehab Unless She Gets Adderall

Lindsay Lohan saying she would most definitely complete her 90 days in rehab sentence was too good to be true after all. The troubled actress refuses to enter the facility after learning that staff members at the Seafield Center in Westhampton Beach, NY have the authority to cease any medical prescription drugs and replace them for substitute ones instead.

Lohan receives a monthly dose of her Adderall medication every month by her doctor as she suffers from ADHD – a hyperactivity disorder she’s been battling for years – so the thought of her not being able to take it for up to ninety days is driving her insane, she has already told her close pals that if she’s not given her medication, she refuses to even check into the facility.

She has already been told that upon her arrival, she’ll receive the medication that they feel is best for the actress during her time in rehab, their reasoning for this is because previous patients have used Adderall to lose weight and get high which has caused, many complications in recent years. When a patient is in rehab to seek help, why should they jeopardize it by going back to their old ways? It’s definitely a bold move from Seafield to carry this through.

Whether or not Lindsay will actually follow things through and just accept the fact that she’s not going to get her way is still yet to be determined, but as of right now, it looks like she has made her mind up. Lohan is expected to start her 90 days in the first week of May, giving her enough time to get her mind together and maybe reconsider he options.

We previously reported how Tom Cruise has reached out to LiLo in hopes that she’ll join Scientology after finishing her rehab sentence.

Bruno Mars Siblings Get A Reality Television Show On We T.V.

The oh’ so dapper Bruno Mars isn’t the only one trying his hand at fame. His sisters, which is 4 of them are trying to get their shine on too. The sisters  will appear in a reality series documenting the recording process of their debut album, WEtv has just announced.

The show will air this fall, the network said. It will include eight hour-long episodes. Tiara, Tahiti and Presley Hernandez are moving from Hawaii to Los Angeles to join their older sister Jamie. The sisters perform as The Lylas. Their pretty, I will give it to them, hopefully they make headway and become a success!

 “The Lylas are fierce, independent women, leaving their home — and in some cases their relationships and kids — for a chance at pursuing their love of music,” Lauren Gellert, WEtv’s vice president of production & development, said in a statement. “Their story is one filled with all of the drama and chaos that comes from making a major life change, with the added spice of doing it alongside your sisters.”

Mars, who was born Peter Hernandez, moved from Hawaii to live with Jamie in Los Angeles in 2002 after he graduated from high school. He released his platinum-selling debut, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans,” in 2010 and last year released his sophomore album, “Unorthodox Jukebox.” His No. 1 hits include “Locked Out of Heaven,” ”Just the Way You Are” and “Grenade.” I remember when the Brothers did the same thing for BET-where’s their album?

According to Star Magazine

“Usher was hired to perform at a birthday party for a Chinese billionaire’s teen son in New York,” tattles a spy. “The guy offered to fly Usher out, put him up and pay him a million dollars.” But, continues the source, Usher’s outrageous demands priced him out of the gig. “In addition to the huge payday, Usher wanted checks for his assistants, stylists, personal trainer and chef. He also demanded they be flown on a private plane and everyone get penthouse suites.”

The billionaire quickly nixed Usher’s deal and instead booked his co-host on The Voice, Adam Levine, who graciously accepted the invitation without any additional demands. But the news that he’d been replaced was a bitter pill for the R&b star to swallow – and led to a heated confrontation on set.

“Usher said that he’s a far bigger deal than Adam is and that he’d better watch his tone,” spills Star’s tipster. “But Adam straight up told Usher that he needs to back off and dial down the attitude, then just walked away in disbelief.”

Black Mafia Family (BMF) Wives to Appear On ‘The Ricki Lake Show’

Earlier this year, I shared news that a new reality show called ‘BMF Wives‘, was being shopped around. In short, the potential show follows some of the wives and girlfriends of members of the well-known (alleged) drug organization Black Mafia Family. To date, we haven’t heard word on whether the show has been picked up by a network.

However, some of the women (Toni Welch, Lisa Buford and Janell Hall) are being featured on an upcoming episode of The Ricki Lake Show.

According to the show’s site, here’s a description:

Today’s guests are women whose significant other is currently serving time behind bars. Ricki first speaks with women attached to members of “The Black Mafia Family” (aka, the BMF), a notorious American drug ring. Two years ago, Janell began dating ‘Big Meech,’ (co-founder of the BMF) and lived a glamorous lifestyle until it imploded when he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for drug-trafficking and money laundering.  Despite his conviction, Janell is standing by her man and plans to marry him when he is released in 2032. What’s Beef: Drake To Chris Brown : ” His insecurities are the fact that I make better music than him, that I’m more poppin’ than him “

Can we say trying to be the modern day Tupac and Biggie, Drake has been quiet while Chris has been doing his promo for his upcoming album, but he broke his silence on the Elliot Wilson interview he did on Friday. Young Money rapper spoke out on all sorts of hot topics including Rick Ross’ Reebok situation, his relationship with The Weeknd, and Lil Wayne’s hospitalization.  He praised Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator, but had some scathing words for Chris Brown. See, this the stuff I don’t like with Drake. He can be real cool and relateable when he’s being that dorky half Jewish dweeb from Toronto. But then he gets around his industry friends, gets a battery in his back and starts beating his chest like a damn fool.

It’s funny to me that he’s trying to pull the “I F’d Your Girl” card like he’s a G, when, after it happened he did an interview gushing about how much he cared for Rhi and how she hurt him or some soft ish like that.

After all this time, Aubrey still wants to be down with the cool kids soooooo bad. Boy, bye.

“His insecurities are the fact that I make better music than him, that I’m more poppin’ than him, and that at one point in life, the woman that he loves fell into my lap,” said Drizzy, referring to Rihanna. Chris Brown seemed to have heard his remarks and tweeted, “Lol.”

Drake plans to drop two new songs in the coming week, one a quasi-remix to “Started From the Bottom” and the other one finds him singing.  His third album Nothing Was the Same will feature some special guests and is due this summer.

On endorsements: “At the end of the day, a million dollars to me isn’t worth the mystique that I still possess when I drop a record.  I’m not just gonna take the first million dollars that you give me.  I’ll go make a million dollars somewhere else and preserve the integrity that I still have.”

On The Weeknd: “OVO was OVO and will always be OVO.  All we did was embrace somebody that we felt was extremely talented from our city. Instead of hating on it and rejecting it, we just completely embraced it.  That was a big part of why it is where it is now.  People make their own decisions.  He went on to do something that he felt was a great decision.  More power to him.  I talk to him all the time and I look forward to whatever he has coming in the future.  I wouldn’t call it a parting of ways.  I just think people reach a point where they need to make decisions.”

Tatyana Ali, Laz Alonso, Porsha Stewart & MORE At the MegaGrowth "Tress To Impress" Party In ATLANTA

Porsha Stewart (shown above with Tatyana Ali & Laz Alonso), who became the most talked about housewife on "RHOA" once her divorce went public, stepped out in Atlanta ringless and happy as she hit up the MegaGrowth's "Tress To Impress" event.  It all went down at The Mane Event at King Plow Arts Center.

The almost single gal tweeted, "I'm here at the relaunching of @MegaGrowth !These products are great for natural, permed, AND colored hair Thanks Mega Growth for having me!"

Porsha tweeted that she picked up her black and white off the shoulder dress from Reve Boutique.  Maybe it's just us but something seems different about that face.  Yet and still, chick looks damn good to be going through an extra rough & very public divorce.  Loves the dress.

And about that wedding ring she finally removed, a source close to Porsha explained, “When he (Kordell) filed for divorce, she found out about it online. So she kept her wedding ring on out of shock at first, then in hopes they could still work it out. But she’s finally realized Kordell is not the man she thought he was."
