Former WNBA star pleads guilty to attack on ex-girlfriend!

Chamique Holdsclaw, former WNBA star who played one year for the Atlanta Dream, pleaded guilty Friday to assaulting her ex-girlfriend and was sentenced to three months probation and ordered to pay a $3,000 fine.

Holdsclaw pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage in the first degree, two counts of criminal damage in the second degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Fulton DA Paul Howard said she was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a fine of $3,000. Holdsclaw pleaded guilty in March and entered her plea in court on Friday.

Holdsclaw was arrested in November after she allegedly smashed WNBA star Jennifer Lacy's vehicle's window with a baseball bat and pulled a gun on her and shot into her vehicle. No one was injured. Holdsclaw later turned herself in where she was placed in the Fulton County jail.

“According to the terms of the plea agreement, Holdsclaw must avoid violent contact with the victim, complete anger management treatment, and perform 120 hours of community service speaking with youth about depression, overcoming adversity and the consequences of one’s actions. She must also relinquish all firearms," Howard said in a statement to the AJC.

Holdsclaw, 35, of Smryna, led the University of Tennessee Lady Vols team to several championships from 1995 to 1999 under star coach Pat Summitt. She was the No. 1 draft pick in the WNBA in 1999 by the Washington Mystics. She also played for the USA women's Olympic team in 2000, which brought home the gold medal from Sydney.

In her autobiography, "Breaking Through: Beating the Odds Shot after Shot," released in 2012, Holdsclaw said she suffered from depression and attempted suicide.

Her WNBA career started getting rocking in 2004 after some injuries and she began not showing up for games. Although she announced her retirement in 2007, she came back to play for one year for the Atlanta Dream in 2009.

Holdsclaw has been involved in the production of an Atlanta-based lesbian reality TV show titled "The Other Women of America."

Jennifer Lacy currently plays for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock. She was a star player for the Atlanta Dream in 2008 and 2009. Here’s hoping she can get her life and her mental issue together!

This brand new flick about iconic baseball player Jackie Robinson, who was the first black MLB player to break into the league as a then-Brooklyn Dodger.

The film tells the story of Jackie as a person, a husband and his inspiring trials and tribulations that made history.  And it was all because he simply wanted to play the sport he loved.

Kevin Liles hosted the screener and party at BAM Theater in Brooklyn, and he brought his wife Erika Liles along.

Whitney Houston's sister-in-law Pat in suicide scare after posting troubling Facebook post

Pat Houston's family called emergency services believing she was about to commit suicide after she posted a troubling message on Facebook.

TMZ reports that the sister-in-law of late singer Whitney Houston, wrote on her Facebook: 'Sometimes you just feel like giving up on life and its many challenges.

'And for the first time in my life…I’m tired…and I want to finally rest. I love you guys.'

Fearing the worst, several family members called 911 and paramedics and police rushed to Pat's home in Alpharetta, Georgia, only to discover the scare was a huge misunderstanding.

Sources told the website that several family members were immediately concerned when they began calling and texting Pat but received no answer.

According to the website, they went to Pat's house and found her passed out on her bed next to a pill bottle, prompting them to immediately call 911.

Fortunately, it was a complete misunderstanding, with Pat soon waking up as soon as police arrived.

TMZ say she told police she had taken pain medication for her back and gone to sleep and turned off her phone, unaware that so many people were trying to contact her.

Pat informed concerned parties that her Facebook post was the result of stress. She was taken to hospital as a preventative measure but released a short time later.

Pat is married to Whitney's mother Gary and worked as Whitney's business manager before the star's death last February.

Pat later spoke to The Insider's Kevin Frazier, reiterating that she was simply resting after injuring her back.

'[Suicide] is never an option and never would be an option for me,' Pat said.  'I wouldn't do that to my family, especially my daughter who means the world to me.

'I injured my back while working out with my daughter yesterday so I decided to take the day off and get some rest.'

Pat added that she took medication to help with her injury but when she woke up, police were in her bedroom.

Whitney's former manager was even more upset because the news brought distress to her family, especially her teenage daughter and niece Bobbi Kristina.

In response to the incident, Pat sent a message to concerned friends via Twitter saying 'I’m very tired and need much needed rest, but not Rest in Peace.'

Jennifer Hudson Spotted Without Engagement Ring

Jennifer Hudson is an emblem of the efficacy of dieting and exercise, but when she showed up to dedicate a Weight Watchers storefront in New York, the buzz was about what she wasn’t wearing: her engagement ring.

The singer/actress was “minus a few ounces,” cracked Yahoo about Hudson’s appearance on Monday night. “Think Hudson simply forgot to put on her bling?”

Oscar winner Hudson, 31, who’s been engaged to WWE’s David Otunga for four years and has a 3-year-old son with him, is the proud possessor of a huge Neil Lane diamond ring.

But it was nowhere in evidence when she posed and sat for interviews at the event to celebrate Weight Watchers’ 50th anniversary. The new storefront was dedicated to company founder Jean Nidetch.

Hudson was svelte in a gold skirt and fitted black top, and could not have looked healthier. She’s an ideal spokeswoman for Weight Watchers, having lost 80 pounds while on a WW diet and a good exercise regimen.

She and Otunga lately have not been seen together at publicity events such as this. She was alone at this year’s Academy Awards and Vanity Fair’s after-party. When Otunga attended the Hollywood premiere of his movie The Call, he went with their son, David Jr.

BRAVO's "Married To Medicine" Premieres To RECORD Ratings, Sparks Online Petition...And Rebuttal From Cast Members

 Say what you will, but Bravo seems to always grab those ratings when it comes to brown-skinned women and reality shows.  It may be at the expense of exposing only certain types of brown-skinned women, but most folks aren't trying to hear that.

While Starter Wives Confidential and The Sisterhood were all shown the door, and season 3 of "Love & Hip Hop" saw dismal ratings, Bravo's latest offering, "Married To Medicine" was a hit with audiences. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series held onto the audience who watched "RHOA" on Sunday and drew 1.9 million viewers. That rating hit all of the key demographics and became the network's most-watched premiere for a non-spinoff and earned the highest number for a Bravo series launch since "Bethenny Getting Married" in 2010.

But the series' record ratings WON'T be cheerful news to a group of medical students at Howard University who started an online petition hoping to discredit the show.  And online petitions are nothing to be taken lightly since we saw "the little petition that could" destroy "All My Babies' Mamas" before it even aired. 

The posting from the outraged students said,

Black female physicians only compose 1% of the American workforce of physicians. Due to our small numbers, the depiction of Black female doctors in media, on any scale, highly affects the public's view on the character of all future and current African American female doctors. Bravo's "Married to Medicine" not only exploits the 6 lives of its Black female cast members, but, through its advertisements and commercials, heavily associates Black females in medicine with materialism, "cat fights", and unprofessionalism.

In a time when doctors are being held to very high standards by the public and each other, it is unfathomable for such a depiction of medicine and black women to be broadcast on tv where it will be inevitably available for years to come, on the internet and through other media outlets.

Additionally, as residency positions are becoming increasingly more competitive (particularly for Black women) and contingent upon social behavior of graduating medical students, this depiction will only hinder black female physicians from attaining competitive residencies. Hence, for the sake of integrity and character of black female physicians, we must ask that Bravo immediately remove and cancel "Married to Medicine" from its channel, website, and any other media.

Hmmm.....now that "Married To Mediciine" had proven to be a moneymaker for Bravo (at least THIS week), we don't see Andy Cohen and his counterparts cancelling that mug. Apparently, America wants to see the "Diva Doctor" and the superficial doctors' wives.

The students' efforts did spark a response from a few of the show's castmembers who have been doing their promo rounds.  During another recent interview, several ladies of the cast took issue with the students starting a petition for a show they'd never seen and cautioned that their focus should be on books....not reality tv.

It will be interesting to watch this play out.

Bobby is seeking $1 million in damages.

Bobby Brown and Derrick Handspike had a falling out after Whitney Houston pressured Bobby not to release the tell-all book but Derrick released it anyway.

Halle Berry: Maui Beach Day with Olivier and Nahla!

The 46-year-old was snapped covering up her famous figure in a black kaftan as she enjoyed a relaxing day at the beach with her fiance Olivier Martinez and four-year-old daughter Nahla in Hawai.

The Oscar winner looked to be enjoying the leisurely day as she sat on the sand while her little girl played beside her.

The star wore a black bikini under her sheer cover-up, shielding her eyes from the sun's glare with a pair of brown aviator glasses.

Halle kept an eye on Nahla, who looked adorable in a pink Hello Kitty bathing suit as she happily played in the sand.

Halle is no doubt enjoying a much-deserved break after a flurry of promotional activity for her new movie The Call, which is doing surprisingly well at the box office.

The actress made headlines after she revealed that she has been in therapy for 30 years.

She told the UK Issue of Hello Magazine: 'I've done therapy on an as-needed basis since I was probably 10 years old.

'My father was an alcoholic and a very abusive one, and my mother knew the value of providing me with the outlet of an unbiased person to talk to, so I've done that all my life when times get stressful. It really helps me deal with stuff.'

James Mischka And Mark Badgley Get Hitched!

Congratulations are in orders for fashion’s cutest gay couple: Mark Badgley and James Mischka!

The two got married in a quiet ceremony at City Hall in New York City in Friday.

The now happily married duo, who also debuted a photo of their wedding rings, are the brains behind the fashion brand Badgley Mischka.

 The fashion house’s Twitter account wrote on the big day, “With much happiness, we announce that after 28 years together, Mark & James were married today in New York.”

Police Arrest Mother & Aunt Of Georgia Teen Suspected In Murder Of 13-Month-Old

Police in Georgia have apprehended the mother and aunt of De'Marquise Elkins, the teen accused of shooting a 13-month old baby. Authorities announced today that Karimah and Karina Elkins were taken into custody for lying, but have not revealed when they were deceitful.

Karimah, 36, and Karina, 33, were both booked into the Glynn County jail for allegedly making false statements, which is likely related to the teen's pending case, since cops were eventually led to the suspected murder weapon. “We arrested them last night and brought them back to headquarters, where we afforded them the opportunity to make additional statements,” said Glynn County police Chief Matt Doering. “They did, and that information led us to other witnesses … (who) led us to an area where the gun was disposed of.”

Is has not been confirmed that the weapon was used in the slaying of the baby, Antonio Santiago, allegedly shot as he slept in his stroller. Elkins is believed to have walked up to Santiago's mother, Sherry West, attempting to rob her, and shot her son in the head. He, and a 15-year-old suspect, both face a murder charge for the incident.

After De'Marquise was arrested, Karina offered an alibi for the boy saying that he was at home eating breakfast, and then ran errands with his aunt and mother, at the time of the shooting. “He was with us the whole time,” Katrina said in an interview. “There is no doubt in my mind that he is innocent.”

Although booked under the last name "Freeman," comparing jail records confirmed that Katrina was one of the two women arrested,

Police have not stated whether both teen suspects will be charged as adults.

BREAKING; Michael Winans Jr. gets 13 years in $8M fraud scheme

A member of a well-known gospel music family was sentenced today to nearly 14 years in prison for financially defrauding more than 1,200 investors in an $8 million pyramid scheme.

During today’s sentencing hearing in Detroit, a federal prosecutor and the judge both blasted Michael Winans Jr., 30, of Maryland, for using his Christian faith and family’s reputation in a financial scam that ruined the lives of numerous churchgoers.

After emotional testimony from two of Winans' many victims, Judge Sean Cox sentenced the onetime Grammy nominee to 13 years and 9 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay his victims $4.8 million in restitution. 

Winans took advantage of “good, decent, church-going people,” said Judge Cox in U.S. District Court before sentencing him. “That is very, very troubling to me…You used…churches to perpetuate this fraud.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Abed Hammoud said of Winans: “He used religion. He used the church, the good reputation of the family,” to rob victims.

Winans pled guilty in October to wire fraud. Prosecutors said in court filings that “he clearly abused the fact that he came from a very well known family with a good reputation in order to induce people to invest with him.”

Dressed in a gray suit, Winans addressed the court today, acknowledging that “I did make mistakes.”

I caused “financial and emotional damage. For that I repent,” Winans told the judge. 

But, he claimed, there was no “malicious intent on my part…I wanted people to have a good life.”

Winans led “investors…to believe they were investing in Saudi Arabian crude oil bonds that (he) well knew did not exist,” said the sentencing memo of Hammoud. “Winans…guaranteed the victim investors that the bonds would yield returns of approximately 100% of the principle within 60 days.”

Winans is the grandson of David (Pop) Winans Sr. and the nephew of Marvin Winans, the pastor of Perfecting Church in Detroit who is known nationally for his gospel music. Marvin Winans, who gave the eulogy last year at Whitney Houston’s funeral, was in the courtroom today. He did not comment. 

At the sentencing, there were also several victims of the pyramid scheme, some of whom cried.

Hammoud said in court today “there may be additional victims” of Winans’ scheme. He said there’s a “sea of anger” among Winans’ victims.

In many cases, people fooled by Winans convinced loved ones to give money. Some lost their homes, their college tuition money, and the trust of ones close to them.

Tina Hurt, one of his victims, said today in court that many marriages and relationships have been destroyed because of Winans.

“We’ve experience turmoil,” she said.  “I trusted him. I confided a lot in him.”

Despite the transgressions, Jackson said: “I have to forgive him. I feel so bad for him. I feel so bad for us.”

UK Ticket Website Crashes Due To Extreme Demand For Beyonce’s “The Mrs. Carter Show” Tickets

Damn, Yo girl Beyonce is crashing websites and issh with the demand of ticket sales in the UK. People are ‘really’ wanting to see Beyonce do her thing. We’re hearing that Beyonce’s initial four tour dates for London has been extended to six following the flood rush of pre-sale tickets. Also added was an extra date for Manchester.

The tour's namesake, Mrs. Carter Show, is a nod to Beyonce's husband Jay-Z -- whose real name is Shawn Carter.

It is rumored that Jay-Z might make a few surprise appearances on stage with his wife for the highly anticipated shows. The tour is set to be kicked off in Belgrade, Serbia on 15 April and the European leg comes to an end in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 29. 

The former Destiny's Child singer will then take a month's break before returning to the stage at Los Angeles' Staples Center on 28 June. 

Beyonce will end the tour on 3 August in her spouse's hometown of Brooklyn, New York

The show has officially been confirmed and is titled, ‘The Gossip Game.’ It will follow the face paced media and gossip personalities in New York City. Emmett Till's Family Pens Open Letter To Lil Wayne 

Lil Wayne is deep in drama and it's only February. While he recently spoke on his issues with the NBA, and his Chris Bosh slander, on Miami radio, Tunechi has yet to comment on the disrespectful use of Emmett Till's name in one of his rhymes. Now, Till's family has penned an open letter to the YMCMB rapper.

As previously reported, the "No Worries" rapper has come under fire for the line, "Beat the pu--y up like Emmett Till," from his verse on Future's "Karate Chop (Remix)." Epic Records, Future's label, apologized and his censored the song. Still now word of the incident from Tunechi's camp, though.

Now Till's family has penned a letter, shared by VIBE, addressed to Dwayne Michael Carter that explains why they feel so disrespected by the rapper's words.

A portion of the missive, drafted on letterhead attributed to Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation, reads, "Drafting this letter is very difficult because Emmett Till was not just a "sacrificial lamb" for the movement, he was our blood. There was a before image of our beloved "BoBo" that represented the fun-loving, bubbly playful child and member of our family before there was the iconic image of his disfigured face symbolizing as described by his mother as the "face of racism". [sic] He was more than a name that went down in history. HE WAS MAMIE TILL MOBLEY'S ONLY CHILD!"

The two-page letter goes on to urge Tunechi to be mindful of the power his words possess and suggest he join the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation in efforts to "educate and restore" Emmett Till's name.

Her boo Chris Brown, who spent the earlier party of the day on the beach with RiRi, helped make her day special.  

She partied with her little brother Rorrey Fenty too. She tweeted, "Me and my big little brother."

She and her girls snapped pics with the Polaroid.

The fellas held it down and gave RiRi a birthday shout out.

Then she tweeted a pic of her girlfriends with the caption "My #hoes"

Her assistant Jen Rosales rocked an animal print for the party.   And held up a small bag of a very mysterious white powdery substance.  Oh we can only wonder what THAT is....

And of course there was birthday cake for everyone.

And we can only imagine what happened behind closed doors as she shared , "Put this #cake in ya face! I made him lick all this icing off! Lol"

Lil Flip Pleads ‘Not Guilty’ After Possession Of Firearm Arrest

Lil’ Flip has not stopped fighting for allegedly driving illegally with an assault rifle in his car. He also allegedly had marijuana in the car too. Yesterday he plead ‘not guilty’ to both possession charges. 

TMZ reports Flip was pulled over for speeding on Christmas in Louisiana. He was placed under arrest when the police claimed they found marijuana in his car and a AR-15 rifle. He was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a schedule 1 narcotic aka weed and speeding. He plead ‘not guilty’ to all of the counts in court .

Flip has since the beginning planned to fight the charges. He states that the rifle is 100% legal. He showed his concealed handgun license to prove it. Flip said what was claimed to be weed was actually just Black & Mild cigars.

Next trial date is set for April 2013.
