Oberlin College Cancels Classes After Someone Wearing Kl@n Robes Spotted On Campus
Oberlin College cancelled classes after a hooded figure (think: Kl@n attire) was spotted on campus near the school's Afrikan Heritage Center this morning. In response to a month-long rash of hate crimes, the student body is banding together to address the issues in a series of community events this afternoon.
The Chronicle-Telegram reports that Oberlin came to the decision to shut down after racist and h0mophobic statements began appearing on posters around the school.
Monday's event with the unknown person in the hood and Ku Kl@x Kl@n-inspired robes was the final straw according to an open letter from school president Marvin Krislov.

Monday, there was a report of a person wearing a hood and robe resembling a [Kl@n] outfit between South and the Edmonia Lewis Center and in the vicinity of Afrikan Heritage House. This report is being investigated by both Safety and Security and the Oberlin Police Department. This event, in addition to the series of other hate-related incidents on campus, has precipitated our decision to suspend formal classes and all non-essential activities for today, Monday, March 4, 2013, and gather for a series of discussions of the challenging issues that have faced our community in recent weeks.
Krislov continued the letter by announcing a trio of events staged to show solidarity among students and faculty, and promoting Oberlin's message of inclusion.
A liberal arts school in Ohio, Oberlin is most known for being the first institution of higher learning to admit female and Black students regularly. The school also prides itself in having some of the most politically active students within the liberal arts sphere.

K. Michelle had an early birthday party at Copeland's in Atlanta. And this was an interesting time had by all....
The "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta" star and singer may have spent most of Monday in the studio, but she took some time to celebrate her b-day.
K spent time getting her drink and eat on with her friends. All for her 27th birthday. She tweeted:

Kelly Rowland Shades Keyisha Cole “Destiny’s Child matters to a lot more people than her”
Kelly has shaded Keyshia for the God’s in a very classy and sophisticated way! I knew Michelle wasn’t going to give Keyshia to much, Beyonce would never respond..but Kelly, yeah she will shade a bish. Which she has, she did an interview with Rolling Stone magazine and when they asked her about what Keyshia Cole had to say about Michelle.. It was just, SHADE, SHADE, SHADE!!! lol
When asked : You reunited with Destiny’s Child at the Super Bowl. Keyshia Cole received some blowback for criticizing Michelle Williams’ performance on Twitter. Do you have any thoughts on her comments?
It didn’t even make it on my radar until other people brought it up. It didn’t even matter. We had a wonderful performance, and that’s all I cared about. I was with my sisters and the three of us matter to each other, and that’s all that counts. We matter to a lot more people, with all due respect, than her. So, I really don’t care what she said.
Now I am patiently waiting for keyshia to call herself going in on Kelly. She will be destroyed.

Nick Cannon to Play “Freeway” Ricky Ross In Biopic
Not sure I seen this one come, former drug kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross seems to have linked up with Nick Cannon for his upcoming biopic. Rick Ross has been making Hip-Hop headlines from jail about MMG‘s Rick Ross stealing his identity, his legend and personifying something he is not. Apparently he’s been set on getting Nick to play his role for some time now. The two recently appeared in a video clip together and Cannon has set his cosign via Twitter.

According to the former drug kingpin, Cannon has signed on to portray him in an upcoming biopic. “It’s time to tell the Story of Cocaine, Contras and America. This is the story of the real Scarface!” Freeway posted on his Facebook page.
“I’ve been wanting him to play my role since ’96. We got hooked up, I met him I love his personality, know what I’m saying?” said Freeway in a YouTube clip.
“We family now, we are going to get this thing right. However long it takes, his story has got to be told,” Cannon added.”
The California contraband conspirator has been engaged in a longtime battle with rapper William Roberts over the rights to use “Rick Ross” as a stage name. The case has been since dismissed by a judge in the Los Angeles superior court, with a new trial having been set for August 27, 2013.
Whitney Houston’s FBI Files Released
The FBI, in answer to Freedom of Information Act requests, has released files on Whitney Houston.
Among the 128 pages of documents are several fan letters and FBI paperwork regarding an extortion case that eventually was closed without anyone being prosecuted. But it does appear that Houston paid off the person who was demanding hush money.
In 1992 a letter, marked “extortion” by the FBI, was sent to Houston’s New Jersey offices of Nippy Inc., in which a woman demanded that unless Houston paid $100,000, “certain details” of her “private life” would be revealed. A later letter upped the ante to $250,000 and claims to have “intimate details” of Houston’s “romantic relationships.”
The FBI interviewed Houston, two lawyers and her father, John Houston. The singer tells agents she considered the woman “a friend” and “did discuss personal things” with her.
It appears from the documents that Houston’s father next sends the person a confidentiality agreement along with a sum of money (the amount is blacked out in FBI documents) and the case was closed soon after.
The fan mail, from a male writer whose name is not included but is postmarked from Vermont, professes profound adoration for the singer. A review of one, however, caught the eye of the FBI as the agency determined the writer “might hurt someone with some crazy idea and not realize how stupid an idea it was until after it was done.”
Among the contents, the fan wrote: “Miss Whitney, you are just so pretty and so beautiful. I just cannot stop thinking about you. Many times when I think about you I will start to shake….. I really and truly am in love with you.”
And in another letter: “Over the past 17 months, I have sent … 66 letters to Miss Whitney. … I have been to 9 of Miss Whitney’s concerts and I have tried to give her flowers twice at the concerts. … When I first fell in love with Miss Whitney Houston I tried to ignore what I felt towards her. After 5 months I had to do something so I started writing letters. I have tried to stop writing the letters and to give up twice but after a few weeks I had to start writing again.”
The writer goes on to say that getting no response from Houston was frustrating. “I have gotten mad at her a few times. … it scares me that I might come up with some crazy or stupid or really dumb idea that might be as bad or even worse than that… I might hurt someone with some crazy idea.”
Later, he wrote: “Miss Whitney, why can’t you respond to my 70 plus letters? … You probably think I’m crazy. Well, (maybe) I am. I just can’t give up. I have to keep trying. I really am in love with you.”
The FBI marked one 1988 letter as possible “extortion” as the letter included a line about the writer making his love known for Houston publicly in the National Enquirer or on The Phil Donahue Show. According to the FBI report, agents interviewed the writer at his small, cluttered one-room apartment and determined: “He believed this ‘crazy idea’ would have hurt Houston’s reputation so he did not follow through on it.” Based on those facts, and that he didn’t intend to physically harm Houston, the FBI concluded that it did not constitute a violation of federal law.
And in one other case, investigators flew to Brussels to track down a Dutch fan who claimed to have sent tapes to Houston. He accused her of performing his music. In 1999, the FBI wrote that the fan “pledged there would be no further attempts on his part to communicate in any way with Houston.”
HUH? Gucci Changes Name To Guwop Then Changes It Back
Gucci Mane took to Twitter this morning to officially change his name before having second thoughts.
The 33-year-old Atlanta rep insisted that he’s retiring his moniker and would be referred to as ‘Guwop.’ Upon backlash from his fans on the social networking site, he changed it back to Gucci Mane moments later.
The name actually spurs from a childhood nickname his Grandmother used to call his Dad. Gucci, who also dons the moniker Trap God, additionally announced a July 2 release date for his upcoming projects Trap House 3 and Juug House. Gucci has been on the road promoting his latest mixtape Trap God 2 and is set to appear in the movie Spring Breakers later this month.

Is Jimmy Fallon: Next In Line For “Tonight Show?”
Jay Leno already retired from “The Tonight Show” once, only to return a short time later, but it seems he may be ready to hang it up when his contract is up in 2014.
And if all goes according to plan, it stands to reason that Jimmy Fallon would be a suitable successor, as he’s knocked it out of the park as the host of “Late Night” at 12:35.
Given that 11:35 has rivals Jimmy Kimmel and David Letterman in place, Fallon’s youthful energy and mass appeal would likely serve NBC well in the ratings department.

Tyler Perry Hosts ATL Premier Elvin Ross Studios Documentary ‘Kunta Kinteh Island’
Tyler Perry and film maker Elvin Ross hosted the Atlanta Premiere screening of the new documentary film produced by Elvin Ross Studios, “Kunta Kinteh Island: Coming Home Without Shackles” on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Woodruff Arts Center. The film honors the celebrated captive African, Kunta Kinteh, who gained worldwide recognition in the 1977 ABC television series “Roots”.
The mistress of ceremonies for Atlanta festivities was Soledad O’Brien (CNN Anchor/Producer of Black in America Series) with acknowledgements by Malachy G. Wienges (Chairman of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences), a soul stirring invocation from Rev. Raphael Warnock (Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church) and a special Heritage Award presentation toElisabeth Omilami (CEO of Hosea Feed the Hungry).
Notable Attendees for the evening included: Kandi Burruss (Real Housewives of Atlanta), Keke Wyatt (R&B Divas), Bobby Valentino (Recording Artist), Tish Dawkins (Actress – Kunta Kinteh Island), Cedric Pendleton (Actor) and Red Carpet host Karyn Greer (11 Alive).
Elvin Ross Studios is a production company that composes music for television and film, and produces documentary and feature films. Kunta Kinteh Island marks Ross’ directorial debut and is the first of many film projects to come from Elvin Ross Studios. Elvin Ross is also a writer and teacher and is working on an academic curriculum companion to the Kunta Kinteh Island documentary, for secondary school and university students.

Drake Drops $50K At Charlotte Strip Club
Rapper Drake reportedly dropped $50,000 on the skrippers at Cameo in Charlotte. All to wrap up CIAA college basketball weekend. And apparently the games are an afterthought, because everybody hit the strip clubs every night.
